We headed down the Interstate to a small town known as Mudville.
Amidst the heavy traffic and snow packed lane,
The three of us drove and giggled and sang.
Eventually we made it, to Mudville that is,
Where we were greeted with hugs and a Jada K kiss.
The blizzard came and the snow continued to fall,
The inches accumulated and sure enough, we got snowed in after all.
No one complained for not a single place we could go,
Instead we rested and relaxed and played in the snow.
A Christmas Eve feast that was scrumptiously appealing,
Crab legs and steaks and a glass full of Riesling.
A few special prayers to give thanks for the birth of Jesus,
You know, the ultimate meaning of this season we call Christmas.
The stockings weren’t hung because no chimney was to be found,
But Dear Santa letters were written and cookies laid around;
Children were bathed and dressed to crawl into bed,
Now I lay me…was prayed while bowing their head.
Even the dog decided to retreat to his quiet dorm,
For three crazy toddlers spent the day running and screaming up a storm.
The house was quiet, the boys nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of deer hunting danced in their heads.
As for me, I laid quiet, praying to the good Lord above
Thanking Him for all of His blessings and unending love.
Christmas morning was greeted with both boys by my side,
Egg bake and gifts and a few more sled rides.
Christmas came and went and the blizzard subsided,
The Interstate reopened so on the road and back home is what was decided.
A slue of vehicles in the ditch, a few upside down,
But because of our great driver, we made it home safe and sound.
Exhausted and tired from our drive that was far from bliss,
We were greeted at home with this…
An 8 foot snow drift, yes you heard me right,
What a daunting and horrible and unwelcoming sight!
